Adult Psychiatry

Who is Served?

You are served if you are an adult who might benefit from medication as part of your mental health and/or substance use treatment.

Why is this Service Offered?

Psychiatrists can help identify whether there are medications or other specialized treatments that can improve your symptoms and support your recovery.

What is the Service?

  • You will meet privately with a psychiatrist. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who specializes in helping individuals with mental health and/or substance use disorder diagnoses.
  • You will discuss your concerns and review the symptoms you are experiencing with your psychiatrist.
  • You will receive a comprehensive evaluation to determine if medications could help to alleviate some of the symptoms you are experiencing.
  • If medication is recommended, you can accept or decline the psychiatrist’s recommendation.
  • If you decide to take medication, the psychiatrist becomes a member of your treatment team and will meet with you on a regular basis to monitor your progress.
  • You may also meet with a nurse who will work closely with the psychiatrist to monitor your progress.
  • You will continue to receive other PATH services that are recommended by your treatment team, whether you choose to take medication or not.

Hours
The hours of operation for Mental Health and Drug and Alcohol Outpatient services are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.  Saturday hours are available by telehealth from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Some specialized programs have expanded hours, but these are only available to individuals served in these programs, not to everyone seeking general mental health or substance use disorder services.

You are eligible to receive services if:

  • You reside in Philadelphia and you have Medical Assistance (MA).
  • You reside in PATH’s service area and you do not have health insurance.
  • If you have any other insurance, reside outside Philadelphia, and/or speak Russian as your primary language, please call PATH to determine your eligibility.
