Children & Youth Mobile Intervention Services (CMIS)

Who is Served?

The CMIS serves children/youth who are experiencing serious mental health concerns or behavioral difficulties.

Ages served: children/youth up to the age of 21.

Why is this Service Offered?

CMIS teams work with you and your family to de-escalate and/or resolve a mental health or behavioral crisis.  We do this by identifying and leveraging your family’s strengths and assisting in the building of important skills to assist your child to address their behavioral health needs so they can remain safely in your home and community.

What is the Service?

  • Brief crisis intervention services focused on improving communication, resolving stressors, and providing education, based on the chosen goals for your child & family.
  • 24/7 access to a team of support that includes a therapist and case manager.
  • Rapid access to a psychiatric assessment, if needed.
  • Assistance communicating with your child’s school, DHS, or other agencies that may be involved in your child’s life.
  • Assistance with linking to other behavioral health, medical, social, school, and/or community services, as needed.
  • The length of services varies based on the needs of your child and family, for up to 6 weeks.

Services are provided in the community, in your home, or wherever assistance and support is required.

Location
Services are typically provided in your home, your child’s school, and/or your community, 2-3 times per week.

Note: Office appointments are available, as needed.
Hours
The hours of operation for Mental Health and Drug and Alcohol Outpatient services are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.  Saturday hours are available by telehealth from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Other programs typically operate during these hours but also offer on-call services to individuals assigned to these programs.  On-call procedures are given to individuals in these programs when they begin receiving these services.  Some specialized programs have expanded hours, but these are only available to individuals served in these programs, not to everyone seeking general mental health or substance use disorder services.

On-call support is available to you 24 hours/7 days per week in the event of a crisis.

You are eligible to receive services if:

  • Your child receives an evaluation from a Crisis Response Center, Urgent Care Center, or Children’s Mobile Crisis Team that recommends CMIS services.
  • Your child has Medical Assistance (CBH) or you are uninsured.
  • Your child resides in Northeast Philadelphia.
