Certified Peer Specialist - Renaissance Program (Part-Time)

Type: Part-Time - 20 hours per week

Job Summary

To promote the mission of PATH to help individuals achieve a more independent and fulfilling life by being an effective team member.  To assist program participants in their individual recovery process and to assist the program community in developing an environment that promotes recovery.  To utilize your belief in and your own personal experience of recovery to encourage self-determination and engagement in meaningful community integrated activities. 

Specific Duties

  1. Provide training and assist in orientation of new employees to help staff understand and accept the concept of recovery and be supportive of a peer culture that promotes recovery
  2. Provide Education on the concept of recovery for individuals participating in services
  3. Invite and accompany individuals to recovery focused trainings
  4. Share personal experience as a person in recovery
  5. Model and promote self-advocacy
  6. Actively engage individuals in services including outreach visits at the individual’s home, crisis center or outpatient facility
  7. Support individuals in all phases of psychiatric rehabilitation
  8. Assist individuals in developing and practicing the skills defined on their psychiatric rehabilitation plans which may include accompanying individuals to appointments or leisure activities to provide support and encouragement
  9. Educate and engage individuals in the Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) process
  10. Facilitate Dual Recovery Anonymous or other self-help groups for individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders as assigned
  11. Participate in community meetings to nurture a peer support culture
  12. Assist in the development and implementation of educational and support groups deemed beneficial by the Stakeholder Committee
  13. Link individuals to community resources and peer supports to promote community integration
  14. Meet community integration expectations
  15. Actively participate in team meetings to promote a recovery perspective in team discussions
  16. Keep supervisor and the treatment team informed of all potential problematic situations/concerns/issues in addition to individual strengths and achievements
  17. Participate in all meetings, task forces or support groups designated by regulatory bodies and/or PATH
  18. With the individual’s consent, engage family members, or other members of the individual’s identified support system
  19. Drive PATH vehicle for program reasons and follow protocols related to PATH vehicles
  20. Take appropriate action during a medical incident including calling 911 in community, at the site or when an individual is calling from an alternate location
  21. Engage family members, or others identified as supporter system when individuals agree
  22. Participate in quality improvement and data gathering as assigned
  23. Complete all required documentation in accordance with PATH Policies and Procedures


High School Diploma or GED.  History of receiving mental health and/or substance abuse services.  DBH approved certification in provision of peer services, Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) Certification.  Good Organization Skills
