Behavioral Health Director

Type: Full-Time (40 hours per week)

Job Summary

To promote the mission of PATH to help individuals achieve a more independent and fulfilling life by managing an effective team to provide quality services.  Responsible for all behavioral health services provided by the agency and meets with the Behavioral Health Committee of the Board of Directors. Responsible for overall management of the D&A Project and staff.

Specific Duties

  1. Effectively oversee and direct all behavioral health programs
  2. Routinely review BH literature and new advances in service delivery, recommending changes to existing practices and developing proposals for new programs that effectively meet the needs of individuals served and/or address gaps in existing services. 
  3. Initiate, develop and implement new and/or expanded BH programs using evidence based or promising practices
  4. Prepare proposals to expand BH Services as requested by the President & CEO
  5. Serve as an effective member of Administrative Council
  6. Maintain and enforce compliance with all funding and/licensing entities
  7. Keep abreast of changes to and additional requirements for CARF accreditation
  8. Maintain CARF accreditation in Residential Treatment Program (House A and House B)
  9. Recommend accreditation for other BH programs as indicated and in coordination with PATH’s Systems & Evaluation Department, take required action to obtain accreditation for approved programs
  10. Ensure that Program Directors work in consort with the facilities department to maintain safe and productive service areas
  11. Chair PATH’s BH Review Committee
  12. Hold Program Directors accountable for meeting established productivity standards and other established program goals
  13. Represent PATH at meetings of professional, civic or other interested community groups
  14. Staff BH Committee of the Board of Directors and coordinate reports or presentations for Board of Directors including the Annual Board Training
  15. Provide ongoing clinical expertise and direction consistent with current literature including evidence based and promising practices.
  16. Be available for crises on a 24-hour basis
  17. Develop SOPs and ensure approved up-to-date SOPs for the Behavioral Health Department
  18. Ensure PATH’s website and other marketing materials are kept up-to-date with regard to Behavioral Health Services
  19. Work in conjunction with the Human Resources Department to ensure that investigations are conducted in a timely manner
  20. Ensure that incident reports are submitted and completed according to Agency policy
  21. In conjunction with PATH’s training department, provide and/or coordinate specialized training for staff as indicated
  22. Support the marketing of PATH’s Behavioral Health Services to the community as indicated
  23. Respond to external reports including but not limited to Consumer Satisfaction Team Reports, DBH reports, CBH requests, etc.
  24. Hear and make recommendations regarding staff grievances in coordination with HR Department
  25. Assist with the preparation of PATH’s annual report with regard to BH Services in coordination with the Communication Director
  26. Monitor and interpret legislation and regulations relevant to BH service delivery for both staff and Board of Directors


Minimum of a Master’s Degree, Doctoral Degree preferred in behavioral health discipline.  PA Licensed or license eligible psychologist (PhD., PsyD.) Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Professional Counselor (LPC), or Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).  At least seven years of increasingly responsible administrative, supervisory, and clinical experience in a behavioral health setting. Excellent clinical and interpersonal skills; excellent writing, conceptual, analytical and presentation skills.  Excellent knowledge of behavioral health field including evidence based and promising practices.
